Credit Requirements/Program of Study

Bedford County Credit Requirements:

Class of 2024 - 22 Credits
Class of 2025 - 24 Credits
Class of 2026 - 26 Credits
Class of 2027 & Thereafter - 28 Credits

In addition to the 22 course requirements listed below, electives will be added to fulfill the increased credit requirements starting with the class of 2025.

Math:  4 credits - including algebra I, II, geometry, and a fourth higher-level math course.  Students must be enrolled in a mathematics course each school year.

English:  4 credits.

Science:  3 credits - must include biology and chemistry or physics, and a third lab course.

Social Science:  3 credits - must include economics, U.S. government, U.S. history, world history/geography.

Physical Education & Wellness:  1.5 credits - must include lifetime wellness.

Personal Finance:  0.5 credits.

Foreign Language:  2 credits (may be waived for students not going to a university to expand and enhance the elective focus).

Fine Arts:  1 credit (may be waived for students not going to a university to expand and enhance the elective focus).

Elective Focus:  3 credits - Fine Arts; Math & Science; Humanities; Health & Safety; Business; Agriculture; Food & Natural Resources; Human Services; STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
