Did you know???
- After being born in East Ridge, TN, I spent weeks in the NICU because I collapsed both of my own lungs upon birth. I took too big a breath!
- I have a sister whom is 17 months younger than me.
- I moved to Murfreesboro, Tennessee when I was ten. My family moved a lot, actually.
- My cat, Cheyenne, has been my pet since I was 16.
- I attended Walter Hill Elementary, Siegel Middle School, and Siegel High School here in Tennessee.
- I played the clarinet in the marching band, and I currently coach our Color Guard.
- While at MTSU, I worked at Hastings Entertainment Store for 3 ½ years. It was my only job before teaching. I met my husband there.
- My maiden name is Brown. I married Eric Emerson King on July 5, 2014.
- Eric is a Belmont alumni, and now works at Nissan. He skateboards. He is in a band. He is really cool.
- I had my first child, Joanna Frances, on July 24, 2017.
- My second child, Julian David, was born on July 5, 2022. We call him "Juju."
- I love teaching at Community High School!
Supply List
Course Materials Needed
- Pencils! Pencils! Pencils! Buy one pack more than the number of pencils you think you'll lose throughout the school year.
- Multi-colored pens for notes - at least 4 colors
- Highlighters - at least 2 colors
- Pencil pouch (to keep all those pencils!)
- 1 pack of college-ruled notebook paper; a spiral notebook is okay, but loose-leaf is better because you will be turning things in. We usually take notes on worksheets.
- Graph paper - I would buy the smallest pack they sell. We use it, but we don't use 100's of sheets or anything.
- 2 or 2.5" binder for all that paper! Note: Calculus students MUST buy a 3" binder! Assuming you do all of your work throughout my course, you will FILL UP this binder. Organizing the binder is up to you - I do not require dividers or do a notebook grade. If you love dividers and organizing, here are your divider titles: Class Notes, Activities and Homework, Quizzes and Tests.
- TI-84 CE (Python) or TI-nSPIRE (NOT the CAS version!) will be a necessary purchase for students pursuing colleges in STEM-related fields but is an optional purchase for our class. Algebra II primarily uses the 84, while Pre-Calculus and Calculus students would benefit more from having an nSPIRE.
- $5.00 Room Fee
I make every effort to have supplies available for my students in case they forget them or lose them or run out, but these stocks get exhausted within a couple months!
